Human geography has to deal with the demographics of Italy. A demographer is a person who studies population, in how it increases or decreases and all of the rates such as birth, death, literacy, infant mortality, and the natural rate of growth. The literacy rate which means the percentage of people out of one thousand over the age of fifteen can read and write. Male is at 99.8% while female is 99%. The birth rate, which is the amount of births per thousand people, is 9.06 people. The death rate, which is the amount of deaths per thousand people, is 9.93 people. The infant mortality rate, which is the amount of deaths before newborn babies reach the age of 1, is 3.36. The natural rate of growth, which is the birth rate subtracted by the death rate, is -0.87, which means that the population of Italy (approximtely 61 million) is deacreasing by one person per year. The median age in Italy is almost 44 years (Male: 42.7 Female: 45). The life expectancy in Italy, which is how long people are expected to live, is 81.86 years (Male: 79.24 Female: 84.63).
